Welcoming OneTeamGov to Shipley

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: General

A few weeks ago, I was asked to look into holding a OneTeamGov event here in our digital delivery centre in Shipley. “Great,” I said, “Of course!”. Only then did I ask myself what a OneTeamGov event might be.

I started to research OneTeamGov, and found that it’s a global movement, with a mission to improve public services. It’s made up of people who work in government and those who don’t, and this is to support the ethos of “we’re unstoppable if we work together”.

So HMRC digital are hosting an event to share some of what we’re doing with government colleagues: our tech, our governance, our plans and, of course, lessons learned.

What we’re planning for the day itself

The event will take place on Wednesday 30 October, with plenty of variety in terms of digital offerings but with no agenda, no rigid timings (other than a 9am sharp start!). Market stalls at the events will highlight how HMRC:

  • manages our relationship with, and supports developers of tax and business software products
  • manages our range of tax APIs
  • is transforming our customer services business
  • delivers our compliance work
  • runs our cyber security operations
  • is improving the employee experience in HMRC
  • is looking to bring more innovation into HMRC

We’re not all “techies”

This event is a great opportunity for anyone in the OneTeamGov community to come along and find out what HMRC digital is – what we do, and how it is improving the experience for our customers and colleagues. It’s also an opportunity to find out how we do this work. Hopefully, we can dispel the myth that you have to be a real “techie” to get into digital. I’m a perfect example of that: I don’t know the first thing about coding or programming, yet I have been able to build a career I'm proud of in HMRC digital.

If you fancy coming along to learn about HMRC digital and meet some interesting people, then grab yourself a free ticket on Eventbrite -

If you'd like to join the community, you can find out more about the community's principles and code of conduct and sign up on the OneTeamGov website. There’s tons more information on there too, including details of other events.

Registration for the event closes on 25 October at 8pm and there are a limited number of tickets, so you’ll have to get them quick!

Did I mention there’ll be free tea and coffee on the go too?

Hopefully I’ll see you there!
