As apprentices we get involved in things that the public would recognise. For example, in my team alone we've been involved in aspects of EU Exit and the COVID-19 schemes.

It's clear to see what impact you can make as an apprentice within HMRC, but you can also understand how you contribute to work that aids the country.

Lorna Rawlings, Business Analyst Apprentice

My name is Robina and I am an apprentice business analyst. I have been on the apprenticeship now for 14 months and it has been very challenging and enjoyable. As a business analyst I run workshops, elicit requirements, put them into a requirement catalogue and create programme maps. These are just a few things that a business analyst does. I have worked on some very interesting projects such as the COVID-19 schemes.

I have worked with some amazing people and joining the apprenticeship was the one of the best careers moves I have made. I look forward to seeing how far I can develop.

Robina Bashir, Business Analyst Apprentice

Hi, I’m Kyran Whitehead. I joined HMRC as an apprentice Project Support Officer, I now have a full-time permanent position as an Associate Project Manager. When I first saw the apprenticeship scheme advertised, I applied. I was impressed by both the high starting wage, the opportunities and qualifications I could get.

During my apprenticeship I worked in IT delivery as a project support officer. When I started, I had a very limited understanding of project management and no idea what a Project Support Officer did, so I would never have expected to be involved with creating and transforming digital tax platforms that would be used by people across the country. This was exciting for me as I felt a part of changes which would affect millions of people daily.

The main thing I took from the two years was a great network of friends and colleagues from around the country, and I can’t stress enough the importance of this. I know the qualifications I have achieved, and essential life skills gained, along with the work I have been doing over the last three years, will allow me to progress further within the Civil Service. Who knows how far I’ll get?
